12/19/2002: The Two Towers

I just watched The Two Towers and enjoyed the movie a lot. Some spoilers ahead...

Yeah, it is in parts noticeable different from the book, but I had fun, the battle scenes were really cool, I liked the Ents, Gollum, and the Legolas and Gimli interaction (even the comic relief role they put on Gimli), I also liked the movie interpretation of Aragorn's character, and I thought how they put the Aragorn and Arwen elements into the main story worked quite well (though I was a bit confused by the falling off a cliff thing). I don't really get why Éomer's role was changed, though maybe leaving out the Westfold folks made things more transparent, but what really puzzled me were Haldir with the Elves in the Helm's Deep battle. Michael Martinez argues that this was done to illustrate the participation of Elves, because battles of the Ring War that are not part of the main storyline can't be shown. I just hope they'll keep the Dúnedain in the third part and don't let the Elves walk with Aragorn the Paths of the Dead.
