12/11/2003: JL: Wild Cards

I'm a bit late with my squeeing, but watching JL is a lot of fun, and deserves entries, even if I'm too lazy to write them right away.

So, about Wild Cards:
The Joker has a knack for drama, his reality tv show totally worked, and I loved his comments on the Justice League, like his fashion comments on Batman and Superman. One thing that confused me a bit was that there were much more bombs than we see them disarming, all while the "real time" coverage is on. I mean, I haven't tried to rewatch with an eye on where each present JL member is at any time and what each is doing, to figure out whether there are enough off-screen opportunities to disarm bombs, but I was surprised when there was only one left. The scene with Batman giving Flash instructions on how to disarm the bomb while fighting was great. I was surprised that Superman had such a hard time defeating Ten though.

And I'm not really a Green Lantern/Hawkgirl shipper, but I have to admit to a soft spot for schmoopy scenes, and as such I liked that Hawkgirl let John take of her mask, and The Kiss between her and John. I was wondering about one thing though: in the cartoon, are Hawkgirl's wings real wings? I think I've read somewhere that in the comics the wings are actually technology and can be taken off, but it doesn't seem to be like that in the cartoon.

Finally, the lone old lady playing the slot machine through all of this was hilarious.
