11/20/2003: for once I failed at being a meme sheep...

I tried to do the "ten unpopular fannish opinions" meme, but it turns out I can't think of ten unpopular opinions I hold. I mean, in fandom there's no opinion or taste so bizarre or incomprehensible (incomprehensible to me anyway) that there wouldn't be a decent sized group of vocal supporters for it anyway. Well, there might be, I don't know, maybe Lana/Lucas OTP shippers who think their true love ought to express itself in furry sex in the graveyard, or something like that.

But anyway, I have some fannish opinions which might be unpopular with some fannish groups, but I couldn't think of any that were unpopular in general. For example being pro public fanfic criticism is fairly unpopular in some corners of fandom, but quite popular in others. My preference for true ensemble stories and stories with a plot besides a romantic relationship plot might be less popular than the preference for pairing-centric romance stories, but I'm not sure it's really unpopular.

Maybe "I don't like Alex Ross' artwork very much." might count as an unpopular opinion though.

Even if I count all of the above, I'm still far from ten. Sigh. Perhaps I just don't recognize some of my opinions as unpopular. Or, I don't know, maybe I'm just not cool and controversial.
