10/15/2002: thoughts on Red

Spoilers for Smallville 2x04 Red.

People loosing inhibitions or acting strange under the influence of mind-altering substances is definitely a common theme in SV by now. This time it's Clark and Red Kryptonite, and I have to say that he does pretty harmless stuff compared to what others did under the influence. I mean, he doesn't try to shoot people, he isn't homicidal, even through towards the end he gets quite rough with the marshal and Jesse's father. But overall? He skips class, comes on to girls, buys stuff with his parents' credit card, enjoys driving fast vehicles... Okay, he also shoves his dad and messes up a bar, but in perspective? I think it's quite tame. Except that he might have been able to prevent the marshal from being shot, but then that was a ruthless bad guy and Jesse's father surprised them with the shot. Though the situation sure resolves conveniently for Clark, with the guy to whom he foolishly demonstrated that bullets can't hurt him now dead. On a shallow note, it turns out Clark looks quite well in non-flannel clothes (and Lex noticed too). He also sort of asks Lex to elope with him to Metropolis, a scene I thought was fun. As were a lot of other scenes with RedKrypto!Clark. Still, despite the death of the marshal Clark definitely raised his profile quite a bit, and not only with Lionel.
