10/02/2002: brief thoughts on this weeks Smallville ep

I just finished watching SV 2x02 Heat (spoilers...)

I'm not one to assume easily that creators of a show seriously intend their characters to be read as queer by viewers, unless they go for openly gay characters. Not even if they seem to play with slashy subtext a lot, but this SV episode -- of course you still can say that the pheromone mojo just didn't work on Clark, because he's an alien, but -- with all the comments by others noticing that he wasn't attracted to Desiree, and also Clark's reactions to Lex' marriage and how he is with Chloe and Lana, it is really hard for any viewer to miss the possible reading of Clark being gay. I mean, you really can't call something like that "giving hints" anymore, it's more like hitting viewers over their heads with a two-by-four. BTW, I liked the parts with Jonathan, Clark and the heat-vision training, though I thought it's a bit weird that Jonathan chose a human-looking scarecrow for first target practice, when the goal is not to ignite humans.
